YCTC Drama Offered Through City of Yankton Department of Parks & Recreation Summer Programs!
The Yankton Children's Theatre Company and the Yankton Department of Parks and Recreation are offering children the unique opportunity to be cast in a full-scale theatrical production. YCTC’s mission is to provide area youth a secure environment for creative self-expression. We seek to instill a passion for the dramatic arts while building confidence and leadership skills that will serve participating children throughout their lifetime. Two program options are being offered. Only registered participants will be cast in each show.
ONLINE REGISTRATION AVAILABLE: Tuesday, April 23, 2013 11:00 AM REGISTER HERE SESSION ONE PRODCUTION: Law and Order: C‑rhyme and Pun‑ishment AGES: 5 - 18 years CLASS/REHEARSALS: Monday through Thursday | May 29 – June 20 | 12:45 - 3:00 p.m. DRESS/TECH REHEARSALS: Monday, June 24 through Wednesday, June 26 | 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. PERFORMANCES: Thursday, June 27 through Saturday, June 29 at 7:00 p.m. & Sunday, June 30 at 2:00 p.m. LOCATION: Summit Activities Center Theatre COST: $60 PLAY DETAILS & SUMMARY: Book by Jane & Jim Jeffires | Music & Lyrics by Bill Francoeur Directed by Allison Spak In the nursery rhyme justice system, the people are represented by two separate yet equally important groups — the detectives, who investigate the crime, and the magistrates, who prosecute the defenders. These are their rhymes. The Inspector and the Punnish Sir (Yes, he’s always scrambling for egg puns!) have been called in to investigate a crime scene where a Mister Humpty Dumpty has been found shattered and fowl play is suspected. Can they solve the c-rhyme? With hilarious musical numbers like “Mountain of Love,” “Eggicide” and “What the HONK Is Going On?,” the yolk’s on you if you think this tongue-in-cheek musical is for young children. There are so many puns and plot twists in this Law and Order spoof, even the playwrights were surprised by the ending! All the girls up in the hills are suffering from what Pa calls "The Hankerin’," for they all want to get hitched — and "Any Ol’ Man’ll Do," as they sing in hillbilly harmony. The only exception is Charlemaine, who only loves her books. But everything changes when government man Marcus Slidell shows up to buy land from the Herfords. Whooo-eee! Is everyone in for a wild ride then! With hilarious hillbilly songs such as "Thar’s a Guv’mint Man in the Holler," "She Has Waaaayyys!," "I Cain’t Fight Love" and "Fer True an’ Fer Shore," this hysterical musical will have your audiences stomping in the aisle.
